Master 3D Game Performance

Real-time rendering eats resources. Your players notice every dropped frame. We teach you how to squeeze performance from modern engines without sacrificing visual quality.

Our program runs from September 2025 through March 2026. Applications open in June.

Advanced 3D game development environment showcasing optimization techniques

What You'll Actually Learn

Forget theory-heavy lectures. These are hands-on skills that game studios need right now.

GPU profiling and performance analysis workflow

GPU Profiling Fundamentals

Learn to identify bottlenecks using RenderDoc and similar tools. We break down draw calls, shader complexity, and memory bandwidth issues. Most optimization problems hide in plain sight once you know where to look.

LOD system implementation and mesh optimization techniques

LOD System Implementation

Distance-based detail reduction can double your frame rate. You'll build automatic LOD chains and learn when to use them. Some studios still do this wrong and wonder why their games struggle on mid-range hardware.

Instructor specializing in game performance optimization

Seven Months of Practical Work

The program spans 28 weeks starting September 2025. Classes run twice weekly in the evenings. You'll work on actual game projects, not toy examples.

Each month focuses on a different performance domain. By December, you'll optimize a complete scene from scratch. By March 2026, you should have portfolio pieces that show tangible improvements.

  • Texture compression and streaming systems
  • Culling strategies for open-world environments
  • Shader optimization and variant management
  • Memory profiling and leak detection
  • Multi-threaded rendering pipelines

Where Students End Up

These are real outcomes from our 2023-2024 cohort. Results vary based on prior experience and individual effort.

Graduate working in technical game development role

Drita Kelmendi

Technical Artist, Mobile Studio

Joined the October 2023 session with some Unity experience. Now works remotely for a studio based in Stockholm.

18-Month Progress Track

Drita started with basic scripting knowledge but struggled with performance concepts. The first two months were challenging as she learned profiling tools from scratch.

Around month four, things clicked. She optimized a mobile racing game for her capstone and cut load times by 40 percent. That project landed her first freelance gig in May 2024.

  • March 2024: Completed program with mobile-focused optimization portfolio
  • June 2024: Started contract work optimizing existing game assets
  • October 2024: Moved to full-time technical artist position
  • January 2025: Now mentors new students in evening sessions

Check Requirements

You need intermediate programming skills and access to a decent PC. We provide software licenses but you'll want a machine capable of running Unreal or Unity smoothly. See full specs here.
